Subtotal urethrectomy and urethral-vaginal anastomosis for the treatment of transitional cell carcinoma of the urethra in a dog

A 10-year-old 4.7-kg spayed female mix breed dog presented with mucoid vaginal discharge despite treatment for cystitis a month. malignant neoplasm was suspected based on atypical cells found mucus cytology. cystoscopy biopsy performed, and the histopathologic diagnosis consistent transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). subtotal urethrectomy urethral-vaginal anastomosis were performed. Treatment piroxicam (0.3mg/kg eod 1278 days) carboplatin (150～250mg/m2/3～4 weeks, nine times) initiated 2 weeks postoperatively. Other than recurrent that started 3 postoperatively, patient maintained good quality of life neither recurrence nor metastasis. The died renal failure years 9 months (1395 after initial visit. While TCC is generally considered to have poor prognosis, it suggested from management this case early radical surgery could achieve long-term survival.
